DISPLAY WERKS ANNOUNCES NEW 40-INCH LCD
TOUCH SCREEN FOR INTERACTIVE RETAIL AND PUBLIC INFORMATION APPLICATIONS
SEATTLE, WA
(September 20, 2004) Display Werks announced today the availability
of its 4050 Series 40-inch Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with integrated
touch screen. This integrated 40-inch touch screen product is the
first ever to be introduced to interactive display markets.
Display Werks
developed the display specifically for kiosk, retail and public
information applications. "Large format displays are very popular
for retail signage and informational kiosks." said Mark Harriman,
President of Display Werks. "Our 40-inch LCD with touch offers
a whole new dimension allowing the display to become interactive.
The applications are virtually limitless."
Gas plasma displays
had gained popularity over the past few years as prices decreased.
But retailers soon found that that the problems of image "burn-in"
caused by prolonged exposure of static images and the large power
consumption made the cost of ownership for plasma high. "LCD
technology is not as susceptible to image burn-in and does not consume
as much power as plasma displays." explains Harriman. "The
quality of the picture is greater and cost of ownership is lower
with large format LCDs."
Display Werks
uses the Samsung 403T Synchmaster display to integrate the touch
technology. The 16 x 9.75 aspect ratio display boasts a resolution
of 1280 x 768 and supports multiple video inputs including composite,
S-video, Component and RGB (computer graphics). With the appropriate
software the display can be used in either portrait or landscape
mode.
The 4050 Series
touch panel does not use cameras or infra-red technology typically
found in older large-format touch panels and this allows the display
to be thinner and fully integrated into the display. Software allows
the whole screen or just parts to be touch sensitive. This feature
lets interface designers have much more flexibility in design of
interactive applications and for ADA Compliance scenarios. Display
Werks 4050 Series 40" LCD with touch is currently available
with a MSRP of $8,500.00 USD.
Display Werks
is known for being first to market with cutting edge LCD technologies.
The company was the first to introduce a 24" LCD touch screen
and also recently announced their line of XC Displays, the first
display ever to allow the viewing and control of a PC located hundreds
of feet away using standard category 5 cable.
Display Werks
designs and manufactures flat-panel LCD displays for a variety of
applications including high-end home control, commercial, industrial,
retail and kiosk applications. The company offers standard products
and custom design services. Display Werks is located in Olympia,
WA. More information can be found at www.displaywerks.com.
